Overview

Côte d’Ivoire has a high rate of maternal mortality, and a large number of people in the country live below the poverty level. Côte d’Ivoire, like numerous developing nations, is plagued by a lack of clean drinking water in many small towns, villages and remote areas, and faces a number of medical challenges throughout the country. A large chasm remains between medical availability in the larger cities and the millions who live outside those more advanced communities.

Although the government of Côte d’Ivoire continues to improve medical access, the current situation still means that many of the nation’s citizens are shut out of basic health services and preventive medicine that will reduce mortality rates and increase productivity in the workplace.

OUR MISSION

AfriMed Network’s mission is to reduce the health challenges to the people of Côte d’Ivoire who suffer from a disease, degradation, and eventually early death.

We aim to bring affordable healthcare to Côte d’Ivoire, improving the quality of life while eradicating diseases that can cross borders into Europe and North America.

By reducing wide-spread health threats, AfriMed Network will be establishing a successful model of healthcare support in Côte d’Ivoire as well as a model to assist West Africa for the future and benefit the world.

Our long-term goal is to set in motion a support system of health care services that will accelerate the general health of the Côte d’Ivoire population and further increases economic growth for the country, the West African region, as well as reduce the demands on Côte d’Ivoire for supplemental funding on a global level.

About Côte d’Ivoire

The nation of Côte d’Ivoire, also known to English speakers as the Ivory Coast, is located in equatorial West Africa and is home to a population of approximately 25 million people.

Since 2011, it has become one of the most stable governments on the African continent and an established growth component of equatorial West Africa, with three branches of government, the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial, similar to the republic form of government in the United States.

Côte d’Ivoire is where China was a decade ago in its growth spurt, a stable nation on the move, with increasing investment interest being shown by Europe and North America. Development is exploding on the ground in Côte d’Ivoire and major businesses and hotel chains, including Sofitel, Radisson, and Tiama have already set up shop.

The ports of Abidjan and San Pedro in Côte d’Ivoire are growing each day, and international partnerships are now producing new transportation and infrastructure projects, including two new bridges and a new subway system for Abidjan, underwritten with substantial French investment.

Côte d’Ivoire remains as one of the top three countries in the world as a producer of and exporter of coffee and cocoa products. It boasts one of the highest per capita income levels in Africa, though still not comparable to the levels of income in Europe or the U.S.

The primary revenue producers in Côte d’Ivoire are coffee, cocoa, and rubber. Sixty-five percent of the land is agriculturally developed.

The government of Côte d’Ivoire has made and continues to make great strides to create affordable medical access for its citizens, but like so many countries, is still behind the curve in its medical reform programs, especially in the rural areas.

With the level of global travel between the African continent, Europe, and North America, many diseases and infections that had been eradicated from Europe and North America have been confirmed as returning as the level of travel increases. These occurrences of disease and infections are in part the result of a lack of first-level care or preventive care.

AfriMed Network seeks to help the Côte d’Ivoire government expedite the level of care to those citizens now unable to afford medical attention.

Diseases Africa Faces: AfriMed Network Can Make a Difference

During routine basic exams, testing, and screening of patients, our medical personnel will be able to uncover serious illnesses that may be undetected and/or undiagnosed. With each positive diagnosis, we refer individuals suffering from any life-threatening diseases to the regional office of the Côte d’Ivoire Ministry of Health. They will then share that information with the national headquarters in Abidjan for further action.

With early detection and education, AfriMed Network can help to identify these serious health problems and expedite medical assistance on a wide scale. This will ultimately diminish the number of people afflicted and bring down the mortality rate for many viruses and communicable diseases in these impoverished regions.
